The survey, which was published by the newspaper, also found that two thirds of respondents have never consumed a cup of tea, compared to just 17 per on the same survey conducted in 2012.
More:The survey asked participants to list the reasons why they drink tea, including caffeine and sugar, and also the reasons they would avoid the beverage in the future.
The results of the survey also revealed that the company has seen a dramatic increase in sales of its tea products over the last two years, with sales up over 50 per cent in the last five years.
Sainsbury will publish its annual results in September.
